Dr. Derek Tow
Education
Dr. Derek Tow leads Los Angeles Oral & Facial Surgery as a dual-degree oral and maxillofacial surgeon, bringing a rare combination of medical and dental training to his work. He earned his Doctor of Dental Medicine degree from Western University of Health Sciences before completing medical school at University of Connecticut School of Medicine. He then completed a rigorous residency in oral and maxillofacial surgery at UConn Health, where he trained alongside nationally renowned plastic and craniofacial surgeons, with clinical experience spanning Hartford Hospital, Connecticut Children’s Medical Center, and St. Francis Medical Center.
Experience & Innovation
During residency, Dr. Tow also led the development of a fully digital, in-house surgical workflow for dental implant and facial trauma patients—bringing improved precision, efficiency, and outcomes into daily care. His research in facial trauma and cleft lip and palate surgery has been published in well-known surgical textbooks, reflecting his commitment to advancing the field through education and innovation.
With extensive training in anesthesiology and the surgical ICU, Dr. Tow is uniquely positioned to deliver safe, comfortable anesthesia for both adult and pediatric patients. Above all, he is known for his ethical, patient-first philosophy, recommending only what truly benefits the patient and taking time to tailor treatment plans with care and intention.
Outside the Office
Outside the practice, Dr. Tow enjoys playing guitar, tinkering with his computer, and exploring Los Angeles with his wife and mini golden doodle, Maple.

Meet and consult
You’ll be welcomed by our front office team and guided through your intake. Dr. Tow will meet with you one-on-one to discuss your concerns, explain your options, and answer any questions.

Advanced diagnostics and planning
We’ll take any necessary 3D imaging using our in-house CBCT scanner to get a comprehensive view of your oral and facial structure. From there, Dr. Tow will walk you through your treatment options and answer any questions you have.

Transparent planning
Our team will review your insurance, outline payment options (including Cherry and CareCredit), and clearly explain the costs involved. We want you to feel confident and informed before you choose to move forward.
